An Focal is the dedicated newspaper of the University of Limerick Students’ Union. It is currently managed by full-time Editor, Ryan O’Rourke and a team a voluntary sub-editors and contributors.

Beginning in September 1992, An Focal runs on a monthly basis over the academic year. Two thousand five hundred copies of the newspaper are distributed throughout the UL campus, as well as to all on-campus student villages, a number of off-campus student villages and to a number of housing estates surrounding the university.

An Focal has an audience of over 17,000 UL students, as well as staff and many others outside the university.
The paper includes 24 pages of news, lifestyle, sports, and clubs & societies news and is open to contributions from any UL students or staff.

An Focal Online made its debut in 2012 and was the first interactive news site of the Students’ Union. Its current design was created by Caitlin Griffin and Siobhan Macloingsigh.

An Focal is run by students for students and is distributed free of charge. It is by far the most successful student paper in the Munster area and winner of both The People’s Choice Award in 2010, 2011 and 2017, and the Vincent Browne Student Newspaper of the Year Award in 2011.
