1. Thousands lose internet access due to malware
THOUSANDS of people will not be able to access the internet today due to malware which infected their computers more than a year ago. The FBI has operated servers to prevent infected computers from losing their internet access but today it has turned these servers off, causing thousands of internet users to lose access. Many people may not even realise their computers have been infected but internet service providers are prepared to deal with their customers’ sudden loss of internet while the FBI deals with the problem.
2. Annan reaches undisclosed deal with Syria’s Assad
SPECIAL Envoy to Syria, Kofi Annan, says he has reached a deal with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to end the violence which has engulfed Syria since last year and cost thousands of lives. The details have not been disclosed and the last proposed solution to the crisis failed to end the killing.
3. Swiss bank account troubles Mitt Romney
US REPUBLICAN Presidential candidate, Mitt Romney has struggled to explain his apparently complex tax arrangements in low tax countries as news of his now closed Swiss bank account and a company registered in Bermuda have emerged. While Republicans have jumped to his defence, Democrats have been quick to accuse the former Massachusetts governor of ‘betting against America’ in his tax dealings.
4. Scientology to feature in Cruise-Holmes divorce
TOM Cruise‘s religious beliefs are expected to feature prominently his divorce from Katie Holmes and the subsequent custody trial for their daughter. Ms Holmes has filed for sole custody of their child, stating she does not want her brought up in he Church of Scientology, the religion of which Mr Cruise is a prominent member.
5. Investigation into Phoenix Park stabbings continues
THE Garda investigation into the stabbings at a concert in the Phoenix Park continues today following the arrest of a 23-year-old man. CCTV from Saturday’s concert has been given to the GardaĆ.
