Meet your UL Transforms leaders!<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The students and staff of the University of Limerick are embarking on a fitness adventure. With four members of staff and four student members leading the way, UL is hoping to demonstrate that it is possible to work and study while maintaining a healthy diet and exercising regularly.<\/strong><\/h2>\n

So who are the courageous leaders involved?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Mamie Hayes<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Mamie Hayes, a familiar face in UL reception, revealed her current level of fitness with the questions \u201cwhat is the gym? Where is the gym?\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite having participated in several fitness initiatives such as Couch to 5k and the Pedometer Challenge, previous to this, Mamie admitted that she doesn\u2019t exercise much and doesn\u2019t like exercise.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, she described her diet as \u201cchronic\u201d as well as admitting she doesn\u2019t drink enough water.<\/p>\n

However, these habits are set to change over the next seven weeks for Mamie who not only wants to help herself but hopes to give more people around campus the motivation to look at \u201chow they lead their lives every day through their fitness and health and mental wellbeing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mamie described herself as not being \u201cout there\u201d explaining she doesn\u2019t have any social media accounts.<\/p>\n

However, she is more than willing to put herself \u201cout there\u201d for the purpose of the programme as she explains she is a \u201cdoer\u201d who \u201cloves challenges\u201d and \u201cwill take on any task.\u201d<\/p>\n

She spoke a little about what she believes is her biggest challenge to date<\/p>\n

\u201cMy biggest challenge to date was taking part in the Summer Solstice to Lough Gur.<\/p>\n

It was a mistake in the sense that my bike was far too heavy for that journey. The others could lift their bikes with one finger, a \u2018proper\u2019 bike.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, Mamie refused to give up, and eventually finished the circuit.<\/p>\n

\u201cMoral of the story \u201cdon\u2019t give up, you can do it\u201d. Despite all of the above, I felt elated and proud of myself for persevering,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
