Members of the Irish Supreme Court will visit the University of Limerick (UL) during their visit to Limerick in early March. The Supreme Court will visit the county from the 5th to the 7th of March to officially open the new courthouse and to hear three cases.<\/p>\n

During their time in Limerick, members of the judiciary will conduct various talks and seminars at the university and Mr Justice O’Donnell will officially open the School of Law refurbishment.<\/p>\n

The first seminar will be held on Tuesday the 6th<\/sup> of March for postgraduate students. \u201cSome of the Judges will hold an exclusive seminar with PhD and postgraduate students where they will discuss some criminal and evidence cases,\u201d explained Dr Laura Cahillane, Law Plus Course Director and Lecturer in the School of Law.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The following morning at 9am, Mr Justice O’Donnell will give a talk on Howth Gun Running in the Analog Devices Lecture Theatre. This talk is open to the public.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Later in the day, Mr Justice O\u2019Donnell and other members of the judiciary will give a talk to undergraduate law students. \u201cThe judges will discuss their reasoning on various constitutional cases and will take questions and queries. Chatham House Rules will apply in order to allow members of the Court to speak freely,\u201d Dr Cahillane told An Focal<\/em>. \u201cThis event offers undergrads a unique and rare chance to discuss important legal issues with Ireland’s pre-eminent judicial figures – it is a fantastic opportunity to gain an insight into the thinking of Supreme Court Judges as well as a deeper understanding of their role,\u201d she added. \u201cIt is very generous for members of the Court to take time out of their busy schedule to engage with our students and the School of Law is very grateful for their kindness.\u201d<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The visit will be the second time in history that the Supreme Court has sat outside of Dublin.<\/p>\n
