UL Ultimate Frisbee Club, UL Ninjas, have won three of the most prestigious tournaments in
\nIreland this semester.<\/p>\n
For the first time since the foundation of the club, UL have taken the title for Outdoor Intervarsities
\nand Women\u2019s Developmental\u2019s.<\/p>\n
This semester also marked UL Ninjas\u2019 fourth consecutive win at Men\u2019s Developmental\u2019s.<\/p>\n
Captain of the Men\u2019s team and fourth year UL Student, Ian McAuliffe says: \u201cIt has been a goal of
\nmine to win an Inter-varsities with this UL club since my first year almost four years ago. To win is
\na surreal feeling in itself as it\u2019s the club\u2019s first ever time in doing so, but to win as the captain
\nmakes it even sweeter.\u201d<\/p>\n
Outdoor Inter-varsities which took place in UCC (University College Cork) saw UL go head to
\nhead in a nail-biting final against DCU (Dublin City University).<\/p>\n
Despite abysmal weather conditions, UL powered through and brought the Outdoor IV trophy
\nhome to Limerick for the first time \u2014 along with over a dozen muddy white jerseys.<\/p>\n
For majority of the team, this tournament would be their last time wearing the UL colours before
\nthey graduate.<\/p>\n
Fourth year student, Shane McNamara said: \u201cThe last four years have been unreal! UL Ultimate
\nhas helped me grow as a person over the years and the friends I\u2019ve made are friends for life.\u201d
\nBoth the UL women\u2019s and men\u2019s team conquered this year\u2019s Developmental Tournament in UCC
\nand Trinity College Dublin.<\/p>\n
Developmental Tournaments are exclusively beginner tournaments for Ultimate players with under
\na year\u2019s experience.<\/p>\n
This is the first year UL women\u2019s team have finished first in the tournament, stealing the four-year
\ntitle from UCC.<\/p>\n
Women\u2019s Captain and second year student, Eva Normoyle said: \u201cIt [The win] really shows how the
\nfemale side of club is growing which was my goal for the year. So incredibly proud of my girls and
\ntoo see how much they have improved!\u201d<\/p>\n
Along with three triumphant wins for UL, the club also hosted the Mixed IV Tournament this year
\nin March.<\/p>\n
Over ten teams travelled to Limerick to play on behalf of their respected colleges.<\/p>\n
DCU had a triumphant win in their final with UL\u2019s first team placing third overall.<\/p>\n
UL Ultimate Frisbee has come on leaps and bounds this past semester and is home to some of
\nthe top players in the country.<\/p>\n
Four club members and several UL alumni took to Australia in January to compete on behalf of
\nthe Irish team in the World U24 Ultimate Championships.<\/p>\n
Many players will go on to represent the local Limerick club, PELT, at this year at the World
\nUltimate Club Championships (WUCC) in Cincinnati.<\/p>\n
