The Drama Society ended last semester on a high, after an academic year that included the production and performance of two original plays, our third trip to the West End, and our eagerly anticipated awards night. <\/span><\/p>\n

Over the Summer our newly elected committee have been hard at work to improve upon the success of last year to ensure this semester is even more enjoyable for returning and incoming members. <\/span><\/p>\n

We have selected two original plays to be performed by the society over the past few months. <\/span>Hubris <\/span><\/i>is an American-based political comedy<\/span> written by Callan Quinn, whilst <\/span>Scum of the Heavens <\/span><\/i>is a mythical Irish drama written by Conor Clohessy. <\/span><\/p>\n

Both shows are completely thematically different and thus will appeal to many budding thespians hoping to take the stage with us this semester. If centre stage isn\u2019t the place for you, there are countless opportunities throughout the year to get involved with props and set design, stage management, and being part of the backstage crew as one of our behind-the scenes heroes. <\/span><\/p>\n

Productions are just one of the many reasons to join the Drama Society. Each Wednesday we hold workshops in the Jonathan Swift Theatre at 7:30 pm. These workshops delve in to all aspects of theatre, from stage confidence and audition technique to stage fighting and improvisation. <\/span><\/p>\n

Wednesday night workshops are one of the highlights of the week for many students, and they offer the perfect opportunity to relax with like-minded people just as you hit that mid-week slump. <\/span><\/p>\n

Our Writers Group meets on Tuesdays at 7 pm in Room 3 of the Student Life Centre , so if you\u2019ve ever wanted to try your hand at script writing this is the place to be. Writer\u2019s group have several plans lined up for the semester, including writing their own one-act play, so it\u2019s set to be an exciting couple of months!<\/span><\/p>\n

Productions and Workshops aside, the committee have plenty lined up to guarantee another stellar year for the society. We have upcoming cinema and theatre trips, quizzes and collaborations with other societies, social nights and plenty more to get involved with. Our 4<\/span>th<\/span> annual London trip is also in the process of being planned, which traditionally includes the chance to see a West End production and take part in a workshop with cast members!<\/span><\/p>\n
