Richie Hogan performed a piece of magic when he came on, manoeuvring the ball into the goal from a seemingly impossible position and surrounded by bodies, scoring 1-2 and helping Kilkenny to a brilliant win in the Leinster\u00a0 Final against Galway. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Antrim and Down made the case for Ulster hurling with two brilliant wins against Kerry and Offaly respectively in the Joe McDonagh and Christy Ring cups.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_23133\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-23133\" style=\"width: 212px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-23133\" src=\"https:\/\/www.anfocal.ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/hurling-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"212\" height=\"119\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-23133\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Down shocked Offaly on penalties in the Christy Ring semi-finals.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, all eyes were on this year\u2019s favourites, Limerick, in the Munster final. After hammering Clare and easily dispatching Tipp in the semi-final, they faced Waterford in Thurles yesterday evening. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Waterford beat an unconvincing Cork side in their semi-final, getting Liam Cahill\u2019s maiden season at the helm off to a great start.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Viewers and fans at home could be forgiven for thinking that another hammering would be given out by John Kiely\u2019s men. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They scored 3-59 in their opening two games and could have scored more against Tipp if the conditions weren\u2019t so severe. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Waterford only had the one game, scoring 1-28 against Cork. Both teams proved that they could score, but Limerick\u2019s intensity and desire to win was more evident in their two outings.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, that was matched by the D\u00e9ise in Thurles yesterday. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was clear from the off that\u00a0 Liam Cahill\u2019s players weren\u2019t there to roll over and let Limerick collect their trophy. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Each ball and point was fiercely contested between the two sets of players. Limerick hit a couple of early scores through Graeme Mulcahy and Aaron Gillane but the gap was never more than <\/span>four points in the opening 35 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>Tadhg de B\u00farca cleaned up in Waterford\u2019s half-back line and Stephen Bennett was all over the pitch, scoring monster frees and nice points from play to keep Waterford within touching distance. Limerick managed to keep their advantage through Gillane\u2019s free-taking.<\/p>\n<p>The full-forward scored ten points, with a couple of stunning efforts from play.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Austin Gleeson popped up to score a couple of points from play to keep the gap at three points as Limerick went in 14-11 up at half-time.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The sides were level within four minutes of the restart. Stephen Bennett scored two frees and\u00a0 Jack Prendergast scored a point. From that point on, there was a belief visible in the\u00a0 Waterford players. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There was an intensity to their play and tenacity in their tackles. Jamie Barron put it up to the Limerick players with some monster shoulders and Limerick seemed to wilt a little in the Waterford hurricane. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">RT\u00c9 Man of the Match Cian Lynch and his teammates couldn\u2019t deal with Waterford\u2019s direct approach, allowing Stephen Bennett to put the D\u00e9ise ahead from a free, but they dug deep as they always do and instantly replied with a\u00a0 Gear\u00f3id Hegarty point.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_23134\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-23134\" style=\"width: 263px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-23134\" src=\"https:\/\/www.anfocal.ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/hurling-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"263\" height=\"192\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-23134\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Cian Lynch will be hoping to get his hands on a second Liam MacCarthy this year.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">S\u00e9amus Flanagan came on after the water break and scored a\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">beautiful point straight away. The big forward was a fantastic impact sub on a day when the result could have gone either way.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Limerick motored on after that, keeping Waterford at bay in the final five minutes. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nicky Quaid saved a hopeful Stephen Bennett effort from a free who put over the resulting \u201965 in the second minute of injury time, leaving the gap at four. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That was to be the last score, the game finishing 25 points to 21 in Limerick\u2019s favour. However, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Waterford should hold their heads up high after that narrow defeat. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The water break worked in Limerick\u2019s favour as they outscored the losers by seven points to three after it to clinch their 21<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">st<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Munster title but there can be no doubt that John Kiely and his men survived a scare there in the second half. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Although Cian Lynch won the individual gong, it could have gone to either\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stephen Bennett or Tadhg de B\u00farca. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are a few things that can be taken from this result:\u00a0 Limerick still look like the favourites to win Liam McCarthy as their fitness and drive in the last fifteen minutes is unparalleled across the country, and nobody will
