The League of Ireland First Division kicked off the 2021 season this weekend while the Premier Division had its second round of games.<\/p>\n

Limerick’s new League of Ireland side Treaty United began life with a 0-0 draw in Bray on Saturday.<\/p>\n

The side earned the valuable point after midfielder Sean McSweeney was given his marching orders in the 65th minute for a second yellow.<\/p>\n

The game failed to bring much excitement with few chances being made in the windy conditions but the local side will be happy with what they got from the fixture.<\/p>\n

Treaty United’s new men’s side earned a valuable point in their League of Ireland debut.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Cork City started their comeback campaign with an important 2-1 home victory against rivals Cobh Ramblers.<\/p>\n

It was City’s first win in 12 competitive games and a first competitive victory under new manager Colin Healy.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere, Galway United and Shelbourne played out another 0-0 draw with a red card for the away side – Shelbourne forward Glen McAuley saw red after a harsh challenge near the end of the first half.<\/p>\n

UCD and Athlone Town played the most exciting game of the round with the away side needing an injury-time equaliser to draw 2-2 with the Students.<\/p>\n

Cabinteely went top of the table after their 2-1 victory away to Wexford Youths – Kevin Knight and pre-season star Dean Casey scored for the Dubliners.<\/p>\n

Finn Harps went top over in the Premier Division with striker Adam Foley netting twice in their game against Dundalk to give Ollie Horgan’s men a 2-1 victory in Oriel Park.<\/p>\n

A second Friday night 2-1 victory saw Sligo Rovers put more misery on Waterford FC, who are yet to earn a point this season.<\/p>\n

Saturday saw Conor Florin Davis lead a Longford comeback to earn a point at Dalymount after being two down to Bohemians.<\/p>\n

The 22-year-old struck twice in the last 15 minutes to help the newly-promoted side to second in the table on goal difference.<\/p>\n

Across the Liffey at Richmond Park, St. Patrick’s Athletic handed Drogheda United their first loss upon their return to the Premier Division after Billy King’s 90th-minute winner.<\/p>\n

The Derry City – Shamrock Rovers fixture that was originally intended to be played at the weekend was rescheduled to April 13.<\/p>\n

Fans will now look towards this weekend for the next round of games which include some mouth-watering fixtures such as Shamrock Rovers v Dundalk and Boh’s v St. Pat’s in the Premier Division as well as Cabinteely v Cork and Shelbourne v Bray in the first division.<\/p>\n

Treaty United host Wexford Youths for their first home game in the League of Ireland on Friday night at 7:45 in Markets Field.<\/p>\n
