It’s that time of year again – when you swear to your mates that you will get out of bed for your 9am lectures, eat less takeaways and start a new fitness routine. While you may adamantly protest you love the college life as you throw on some clothing you just found on your bedroom floor, you have to admit we all need a bit of style advice once in a while. There are only so many times you can sit in a lecture hall with the same Calvin Klein t-shirt you’ve been wearing for the past week without people noticing.

Students have the most primal need to dress up and what a better way to get all dolled up than with the essentials.

For the lads:

The denim jacket

Let’s face it the denim jacket is the ultimate basic. Invest in a denim jacket and you’ll be getting it out of your wardrobe year after year. Choose one with some faux fur to combine comfort and style in one piece. You will be guaranteed to be kept warm without looking bulky. Add some humour to this classic by pairing it up with a quirky tee. It’s a great way to pay tribute to your favourite cartoon hero and let your inner child loose in some hot-off-the-runway cartoon printed trends.

The comfortable jeans

Belted blues will never go out of style. Denim is here to stay and will always slay! (apologies to all the GAA slim-fitting trackie wearers reading this. Sorry not sorry.) Get a blast from the past this season by swapping for a retro denim wash that you can match up with the neutral tones found in your wardrobe. Shredded jeans are also a hot trend this season. Don’t be afraid to put those first-year home ec classes to good use by customising a plain pair in your own style. You’ll deffo stand out from the crowd. Let’s hope for all the right reasons!

The reliable sneakers

A pair of good quality, comfortable sneakers is always a miracle. Sneakers are in no way boring this season from muted navy to metallic grey. Military is a key trend this season with camouflage sneakers in high demand. Blend in to stand out with this season’s colourful camo ranges from Adidas to Nike.

For the gals:

The never-ending leggings trend

Listen ladies, once you discover legging your whole life will change forever!  All of a sudden, the only thing you will be wearing is leggings. They are honestly the most comfortable thing ever invented. They’re like the slimmer more acceptable version of sweatpants!  Inject some life into your outfit with a splash of vibrant colour such as a printed tee or embellished jewellery. Think bright rainbow shades or happy tones to boost not only your mood but your look as well. You’re guaranteed to instantly feel a lot better when you take a little siesta halfway through your 9am lecture!

The ultimate bomber jacket

A collarless miracle or a sleeveless phenomenon? The bomber is the must have jacket for 2018. So, throw on any outfit for the ultimate style fix. You’ll be the looking ‘da bomb’ in one of these jackets!  Edge up your look with a pair of cut-out boots and you’ll soon be a cut above the rest this season!

The warm sweater

It’s all about layering up those warm essentials this season, without having to worry about looking like a stuffed peach or a layer onion. (There’s a Shrek meme definitely in there somewhere). This look is casual with a touch of comfy. Be bold and be beautiful by choosing a print with thick monochrome stripes to really make a statement.

Once you’ve gathered all your essentials from your oh so perfect style guide, then it’s time for pictures. You didn’t put on those spanks for nothing now did you sister? With this new semester, new you vibe in your snaps, you’re bound to have a sharp increase in likes and followers. Not that you care or obsess over such menial numbers, you’re more mature and evolved than that. Now, where did I put that number for Jumbo again?
