University of Limerick’s senior camogie team is on the verge of winning a historic 5th Ashbourne cup in a row this weekend as Waterford Institute of Technology plays hosts to the finals this weekend.

UL go in as slight favourites to seal an amazing five in a row as they are in incredible form this year after winning the league back in November against Saturday opponents in WIT.

In the other semi-final on Saturday will be DCU and UCC, both teams are familiar to UL as they beat DCU in round one of the competition in December and they have had serious battles with UCC in the last four finals.

UL manager Adrian O Sullivan took some time out of his busy schedule this week to share a few words with An Focal.

He started by praising the current crop of players that he has at his disposal over the past years.

“It’s very difficult to put into words what an amazing group they are. They are incredibly talented on the field and just really good people off the field.

He continued, “Their attitude, work ethic and expectations set the bar for us to reach and our whole management team are incredibly proud to be able to say we are associated with them”.

O’ Sullivan also singled out UL Sport, Ger Cunningham, Nessa O’Donnell and Noreen O’ Connell for praise and all the supporters who have followed the team the length and breadth of the country.

“Ye have no idea how much it means to everyone to see your familiar faces on cold, wet nights in glamorous places such as Maynooth and Clonard! It gives everyone a boost and we really appreciate it”.

O Sullivan finished by thanking Ronan Keane in the GAA Office, GAA Council and the sponsors Castletroy Park Hotel and Bank of Ireland.

“We have wanted for nothing all year and without your support we could not have reached the standard of performance that we have. We hope to repay your faith by having Clare Hehir and Beth Carton go up the steps in Carriganore on Sunday evening to bring the Ashbourne home to Plassey again. We thank you”

We at An Focal would like to wish all involved the very best of luck for the weekend.
